Emergency Preparedness Checklist:

Basic Supplies:

  • Water - At least one gallon per person per day for at least three days
  • Food - Non-perishable items like canned goods, dried fruits, and nuts for at least three days
  • Manual Can Opener - For Can Food
  • Flashlights - With extra batteries
  • First Aid Kit - Including bandages, antiseptics, and any necessary medications
  • Whistle - To signal for help
  • Dust Mask - To help filter contaminated air
  • Plastic Sheeting and Duct Tape - For sheeting in place
  • Baby Wipes - For personal santiation
  • Wrench or Pilers - To turn off utities
  • Local Map - For navigation if GPS is unavailable 
  • Cell Phone with Chargers and Backup Batteries 

Personal Items:

  • Medications - A supply pf prescription medications
  • Glasses or Contact Lens - If needed
  • Infant Formula, Bottles, Diapers, and Wipes - If you have an infant
  • Pet Food and Extra Water - For your pets
  • Important Documents - Copies of insurance policies, identification, and bank account records in a waterproof container
  • Cash - Small bills are preferable 
  • Emergency Blanket - Lightweight and Compact

Tools and Supplies:

  • Multi-tool - For various needs
  • Fire Extinguisher - For small fires
  • Matches in a Waterproof Container - or a Extra Lighters
  • Paper and Pencil - For notes
  • Books, Games, Puzzles, and Other Activities - To pass the time

Additional Consideration:

  • Clothing and Bedding - Complete change of clothing and sturdy shoes for each person, along with blankets or sleeping bags
  • Household Chlorine Bleach and Medicine Dropper - For water purification
  • Firearms and Ammunition - If you are trained and legally permitted to use them
  • Extra Fuel - For your vehicle or generator, stored safely

Planning:

  • Emergency Plan - Discuss with your family where to meet and how to communicate during an emergency 
  • Training - Basic first aid and CPR training can be valuable
